NEW !!! Wonderful Round Ball in a Log from Cold Harbor
Probably from an Old GAR Post Collection with Original Collection Label
-

This is a very cool relic that I have had in my collection for more than a decade!
It is a round ball or case shot that was found in a large piece of wood or log at Cold Harbor. A section of wood has
been carefully removed so as to expose the relic. The log was carefully preserved at some point in the past and has
a nice solid feel to it and has a slightly shiny appearance from the preservative. It is 21 1/2 inches in length and
6 inches in diameter at its widest point. An old collection tag was with the relic - it is faded, but reads "Section
of tree from Cold Harbor battlefield with Confederate bullet (? - I cannot read the last word)". The label has
been placed between two thick pieces of plastic to preserve it. About 1/2 of the relic is visible - it is either a .58
or .69 caliber round ball or a lead case shot. This is a very cool relic that I have decided to part with! I will
include a letter, signed by me, noting this provenance. This item has a little weight, so expect slightly higher shipping charges. -

Fired .58 Caliber Bullet
-
This fired .58 caliber bullet comes from an old meticulously documented
collection and was identified as having been found at Antietam and was associated with the fight
between Sumner and Ewell. It was recovered in April of 1961. Ewell's men fought at both the Cornfield
and the West Woods - Sedgwick's Division of Sumner's Corps fought at the West Woods, but, based upon
other descriptions in the collection, I suspect that the location may have also been in the
Cornfield. I will include the original collection label and a letter, signed by

This fired .58 caliber bullet was acquired with a group of bullets that were

Although I do not know the exact address, the 200-500 blocks of Middle Street
look out towards Culp's and Cemetery Hills and Middle Street was the location
of the Confederate line that ran through the town. These are the first
bullets that I have acquired from a site in town. They were being displayed

NEW !!! Antietam Bloody Lane - Dropped Bullet with Painted ID
Possible Early Pick Up - The John Graham Collection
-

This is a very cool relic! It is a dropped .58 caliber bullet that has a fine etched identification
on it (it looks like baby powder was put into the mark so that it could be read) - the identification on one side
is "THE BLOODY LANE ANTIETAM". There is also something etched on the other side but I cannot make
it out - I think I see a "5" but I cannot be sure. The bullet has almost no patina so it
may be an early pick up. This was a part of the collection of John Graham, a well-known
and respected relic hunter and collector, who passed away a couple of years ago.
I kept this bullet in my collection for the last couple of years, but have decided to sell

it was fired by the soldier while the ramrod was still in the barrel. It comes from the collection of relic

this case were identified as having been found at the battlefield of Drewry's Bluff, specifically at a loaction
occupied by the Massachusetts regiments of Heckman's brigade. This brigade was outflanked and broken

looks like it was an early battlefield pick up - appears to have been carved by a soldier (the nose has been cut
off). It also still retains the zinc washers on the back. It comes from an old collection
and was identified with a label that it and other William's Cleaners in the group were found at Antietam.
Many of the Antietam bullets within the collection were found in the early 1960s near
the Bloody Lane and in the Cornfield, but this one was in an Antietam group
where many of the bullets looked like early battlefield pick ups. I will
include a copy of the original collection label and a letter, signed by me, with the specific provenance.

DECEMBER 11TH -
NEW !!! Antietam Bloody Lane - Fired .58 Caliber
Bullet with Unusual Mark
-
This fired .58 caliber bullet comes from an old collection and was specifically
identified as having been found at the Bloody Lane at Antietam
in April of 1962. It has an unusual mark on one side - I think that it was, perhaps, run over by a wagon wheel.
A great relic from a desirable battlefield location! I
will include a printed copy of the original collection label and a letter, signed
by me, with the specific provenance.

NEW !!! Very Cool Carved Bullet
with Initials!
-
This carved bullet has two clear initials "A N" etched into it. There
may be a third letter or something else right after the N, but, if so, it is much more lightly etched and difficult to make
out. The bullet appears to be a .58 caliber three ringer that has had the top and bottom cut off. This comes from
an old collection. There was no specific location identification with this bullet. Bullets with initials carved
into them are very rare. I will include the original collection label and a letter, signed by
me, with the specific provenance.-

NOVEMBER
27TH - NEW!!! - Bill Gavin Collection - Fredericksburg / Meade's
Attack
"Blow Thru" Confederate
Gardner Bullet
-

This "blow thru" Confederate Gardner bullet (the result of a weak nose in the bullet - the
ignition of the powder actually blew through the nose upon firing) was in one of Gavin's groups of relics that were identified
as having been found at the site of Meade's Attack (Hamilton's Crossing) at Fredericksburg. Gavin probably dug this
in 1960 (the same year he dug a plate from this site). The case that this relic was in was unnumbered. The lead
does have some bubbling (this is not uncommon in the Gavin bullets - apparently they were exposed to dampness for a long period
of time) and it does look like Gavin scarped it with his shovel when it was dug. A letter, signed by me, with provenance
information and a copy of the photograph of the original display case will be provided to the buyer.

SEPTEMBER 12TH -
NEW!!! - Antietam Confederate Right Flank near the Burnside Bridge
Neat Fired Confederate Gardner Bullet -
Double Load or Ramrod Impression
-

This fired Gardner bullet (the rings are light, but it clearly has a cavity insert)
has an impression on the top that would indicate that it was either fired from the soldier's musket with another
bullet rammed in on top of it or that it was fired with the ramrod in the barrel. The soldier may have also rammed
it home extra hard when loading. It was found by a relic hunter in the 1980s in an area along the
Confederate right flank during the Battle of Antietam, near the famous Burnside Bridge (private property at
the time with permission). Late in the battle, Union regiments that had successfully crossed Burnside
Bridge began to push back the Confederate line in this area until Confederate reinforcements stopped their
advance and brought an end to the battle. I will include a letter, signed by me, noting this provenance.

Antietam - Dropped .69 Caliber Bullet
-
This dropped .69 caliber bullet with plug style cavity comes from a group of relics
that I just acquired. This group was purchased at a local auction. When I inquired about the origin of the relics,
they told me that the consigner dug the relics himself and that he was from the Sharpsburg area. The relics, which included
forty-five .69 caliber bullets (many of them pulled), were almost certainly from the campaign or battle of Antietam because
they are early war relics - there were no bullets from later in the war mixed in (such as Type III William's Cleaners or Spencer
Rifle bullets). Although I cannot gurantee that the relics were found around Antietam and are from 1862, I feel pretty
confident in this fact. I will include a letter, signed by me, noting this provenance.

Gavin Collection - .69 Caliber Tower Bullet
Gaines Mill
-

This bullet was acquired from a riker case which housed a variety of relics from different battlefields
identified by Gavin's handwritten labels. This is a .69 caliber Tower bullet - it measures about .95 inches in length.
This one appears to have been fired as there are a couple of dents on the nose and the skirt is slightly out of shape - but
the damage is minimal. It looked as though the relics in this case shifted a bit, so I cannot be 100% certain that the
label that was near given relics does indeed identify where they were found - but this bullet was right at a Gaine's Mill
label (this label can be seen in the photograph, but is not included with the bullet). A letter,
signed by me, with provenance information will be provided by the buyer. This item may be seen in case
