JULY 26th - NEW!!! - Civil
War Veteran's Gettysburg Battlefield Pick Up Mushroomed Bullet
Little Round Top
-
This nice example of a fired mushroomed bullet came from the collection of a Civil War veteran named McPherson
who lived in the Chambersburg, PA. area. The relics in this collection were picked up in the years after the battle
and most were identified as having been found in the area of Little Round Top. The unusual patina on this bullet (unlike
one that was dug from the ground) seems typical of a bullet that has been exposed to the elements. I will include a
letter, signed by me, noting this provenance. This item may be seen in case 63 at the Antique
Center of Gettysburg.

14th Corps Badge -
Bullet Carved into an Acorn - Found at Resaca, Georgia
-
This carved bullet, which was found at Resaca, Georgia in the 1980s, appears to have been shaped into
an acorn. The acorn was the 14th Corps symbol and the 14th Corps was present at Resaca. It is 7/8 of an inch in
length. This is a neat little relic of Sherman's Atlanta campaign. I will include a letter, signed by me, noting
this provenance. This item may be seen in case 63 at the Antique Center of Gettysburg.

Antietam Piper Farm Recovered
.69 Caliber Bullets
-
Dropped .69 caliber minie balls that were recovered from the Piper Farm
by a relic hunter in the 1950s. At this time, the land was privately owned and this individual obtained permission from
the farmer to hunt the land. There are six in this group with some slight variations. I will sell them
individually or as a group. A couple of them have small dents or marks, but overall, they are in very good condition.
I will include a letter, signed by me, noting this provenance.

Antietam Piper Farm Recovered
.69 Caliber Prussian Bullets
-
.69 caliber Prussian bullets that were recovered from the Piper Farm by a relic
hunter in the 1950s. At this time, the land was privately owned and this individual obtained permission from the farmer
to hunt the land. These all appear to have been drops (which would not be surprising since this was a Confederate position
and these bullets are usually associated with Southern forces) although they have a few nicks and dents here and there.
I will include a letter, signed by me, noting this provenance. These items may be seen in Case 63 at the Antique Center
of Gettysburg.

Antietam Piper Farm Recovered
Carved .69 Caliber Prussian Bullet
-
A .69 caliber Prussian bullet which was carved by a soldier. It was recovered
from the Piper Farm by a relic hunter in the 1950s. At this time, the land was privately owned and this individual obtained
permission from the farmer to hunt the land. The soldier appears to have sliced off the bottom of the bullet leaving
only one ring and a shallower cavity. Small lines (which almost look like pencil lines) have been made up the side
of the bullet. I will include a letter, signed by me, noting this provenance. This item may be seen in Case
63 at the Antique Center of Gettysburg.

This .69 caliber bullet in a small piece of wood was recovered by Raleigh Cassidy from the
site of the Battle of Cold Harbor and was a part of the John Graham collection. Graham was a long time relic hunter
and collector. .69 caliber bullets in wood are relatively uncommon. The wood is dry. I will include a letter,
signed by me, noting this provenance.

Soldier Carved .69 Caliber Prussian Bullet - Animal?
Cold Harbor - The Henry Deeks Collection
-
This is an unusual item. It is a carved .69 caliber Prussian bullet. It appears that the
soldier may have been carving an animal whose head was at the nose of the bullet. There are various swirls around the
nose which may be fur and there may also be eyes. The soldier carved various other lines along the length of the bullet
and even carved very small lines on the base of the skirt (which is uneven). This carved bullet was a part of the Henry
Deeks collection and was found in a coffee can that was marked "Cold Harbor". I will include a letter, signed
by me, noting this provenance.

Interesting Carved Bullet from the Antietam Area
-
This interesting carved .58 caliber bullet was found near Antietam in the early 1970s, but I do not know
the exact location. The soldier has carved off the nose of the bullet and a hole has been bored in the center.
There is also a pin hole in the cavity and it is possible that the hole goes all the way through the bullet.
