NOVEMBER 13TH -
NEW !!! Antietam - Artillery Case Shot - Early
Pick Up
-
This is an artillery case shot (it is just under 7/10 inch diameter) - it has only
a light patina and certainly looks like it was an early battlefield pick up. It comes from an old collection
and was in with other bullets that were exclusively identified as having been found
at Antietam. Most of the Antietam bullets in another group within the collection were
found in the early 1960s near the Bloody Lane and in the Cornfield, but this one was in an Antietam
group where there were not any specific battlefield locations and where many of the bullets looked like
early battlefield pick ups. I will include a letter, signed by me, noting this provenance.

to the collector by the seller but the nice painted identification was put on there by the collector. I will provide

Atlanta Arsenal Read Shell Half with Part of the Sabot
The Battle of Peachtree Creek - Atlanta - Dubose
Farm Early Pick Up
-
Almost half of a Confederate Atlanta Arsenal 3 inch Read shell with remains of the brass sabot. These
shells are only found on western theater battlefields. This one was recovered by the Dubose family from their farm,
which was at the heart of the battlefield, before 1930. It remained in the Dubose family until this year when one of
the family members sold it to a reputable Civil War dealer. I acquired the shell directly from him. The
shell is "as found" and was never cleaned. I will provide a letter, signed by me, with
the provenance information. This item may be seen in case 51 at the
Antique Center of Gettysburg.

Antietam - Nicodemus Farm - Large 12 Pounder Spherical
Shell Fragment
-
This large fragment (3 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches) was found on the Nicodemus Farm at Antietam
by a relic hunter who specifically hunted for artillery shell fuses (on private property with permission).
Nicodemus Heights, on the Nicodemus Farm, was an artillery position from which Confederate cannons raked the right
flank of the Union Army as it advanced from the North Woods and across the Cornfield. The batteries on the
heights eventually came under heavy Union artillery fire and this fragment is certainly from one of those shells.
I will include a letter, signed by me, noting this provenance.

are no longer readable. I will provide a letter, signed by me, with the provenance information.

as a Gettysburg find. The fragment is 1 1/4 inches tall and 2 1/4 inches across the base. I will include a letter,
