Several of the cases of relics from the Gavin collection were identified as having come from Spotsylvania.
Here is a video on Youtube in which Gavin walks among the trenches and talks about where he found relics at Spotsylvania (before
the land was owned by the park service). I will list the relics from these cases below as I make them available for
purchase. Currently on this page - case #100, miscellaneous items from an unnumbered case and case #91.

SPOTSYLVANIA COURT HOUSE - CASE #100

This case, which was identified as #100 by Gavin, housed some very nice relics including a U.S. plate
skin, a Confederate lead cap box finial and a variety of different bullets and small relics. The relics were not identified
to any specific location at Spotsylvania.

Gavin Collection - Soldier Carved Swage Bullet
found at Spotsylvania Court House

This relic came from Gavin's display case #100 which had relics that were identified as having been found
at Spotsylvania Court House. This Swage bullet appears to have been carved by a soldier - the nose has been slightly
whittled down in two rings and a small part of the tip has been cut off. A letter, signed by
me, with provenance information and a copy of the photograph of the original display case will be provided to the buyer.

One Fired with Ramrod Impression - found at Spotsylvania Court House

These relics came from Gavin's display case #100 which had relics that were identified as having been
found at Spotsylvania Court House. Two Type I William's Cleaner bullets - one is a drop and the other is fired.
The fired bullet appears to have a ramrod impression on the nose. A letter, signed by me, with

found at Spotsylvania Court House. This pewter canteen spout is not from a regulation canteen - it is much thinner. It seems likely that it probably came off of a Confederate canteen. It has been bent out of shape.

1 1/4 inches) of a Hotchkiss shell sabot on which Gavin has written "SPOTS" in pencil. A letter, signed by me, with

This relic came from an unnumbered display case that had relics from various locations with Gavin's
handwritten labels. This large fragment (4 x 2 inches)
from the nose of a Parrott shell with fuse threads was next to the Spotsylvania Hotchkiss sabot listed above (BG19603), so
it almost certainly was found at the same location. A letter, signed by me, with provenance information will be provided to

This relic came from an unnumbered display case that had relics from various locations with Gavin's
handwritten labels. This is a model 1861 Springfield musket butt plate that was identified
as having been found at Spotsylvania. It is 4 3/4 inches tall and 1 3/4 inches wide. It is in "as
dug" condition and has never been cleaned (other than the removal of dirt), but is a solid relic. I will include
Gavin's label with this relic. A letter, signed by me, with provenance information will be provided to the
buyer.

This relic came from an unnumbered display case that had relics from various locations with Gavin's
handwritten labels. This is a 1 1/2 inch diameter canister ball that was identified
as having been found at Spotsylvania. It is in "as dug" condition and has never been cleaned
(other than the removal of dirt), but is a solid relic. There is a small indentation on one side of the ball (this appears
to be original) and a small spot of papers that has been glued to one spot (perhaps from one of Gavin's earlier displays).
The label that is in the photograph will NOT be sold with this item (it will be included with item BG19201 which was also
in this group). A letter, signed by me, with provenance information will be provided to the buyer.

found at Spotsylvania. This is a fairly long section of a musket ramrod (just over
16 1/2 inches). It is "as dug" and has never been cleaned or coated, but it is a solid relic.

threads. The curvature of this one may indicate it is from a Broun or Dyer shell. It is 3 1/2 inches long and 1 5/8

still retains the working parts and the date "1860" and "TOWER" can still be read.

found at Spotsylvania. A New York coat button (23 mm) with "EXTRA QUALITY" back mark.
This one still has some string in the loop. I see very little gilt remaining, but it does have a nice green patina.

found at Spotsylvania. This is the fragment from the nose of a shell that had a wood fuse (thus a fuse hole
without threads) - it was probably a Confederate Archer. The fragment is 2 3/4 inches long x 2 3/4 inches wide. It is

found at Spotsylvania. This is a very nice fragment from a 12 pounder spherical shell. The threads from the Bormann
fuse and underplug are quite clear and the fragment has very little ground action on the outer surface or threads. It
