BILL GAVIN COLLECTION - NORTH ANNA BATTLEFIELD - -
The North Anna River was the site of one of the 1864 battles that were a part of Grant's overland campaign.
Both armies departed from the bloody fields around Spotsylvania Court House. Robert E. Lee, once again attempting to
position his army between Grant and Richmond, chose a strong defensive position along the North Anna River which his engineers
quickly fortified. Between May 23rd and May 26th, the armies skirmished with each other along this line. Grant eventually
disengaged and moved his army in the direction of Cold Harbor, where the next graet battle of the campaign would occur.
A couple of Gavin's display cases were identified as relics that were found at North Anna. -  -
North Anna - Case #22 -
This case, which was identified as #22 by Gavin, housed an interesting variety of relics including Enfield
musket parts, shell fragments, and many bullets. The relics were identified as having come from the position of the
Union V Corps. The V Corps was involved in the largest skirmish at North Anna when the Confederate division of Cadmus
Wilcox attacked the its position at Jericho Mills. The battle cost the Confederates 730 casualties while the V Corps
lost 377. - - - - - - - -
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ JULY 18TH - NEW!!! - Bill Gavin Collection - Enfield Musket Nose Cap found at the V Corps Position - North Anna Battlefield -    This relic came from Gavin's display case #22 which had relics that were identified as having been found at the V Corps position at North Anna. This is the brass nose cap from an Enfield musket. A letter, signed by me, with provenance information and a copy of the photograph of the original display case will be provided to the buyer. -

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ JULY 18TH - NEW!!! - Bill Gavin Collection - Small Piece of Picture Frame found at the V Corps Position - North Anna Battlefield -   This relic came from Gavin's display case #22 which had relics that were identified as having been found at the V Corps position at North Anna. This is about one third of the copper frame from a cased photograph. It is just under 2 inches in width. A letter, signed by me, with provenance information and a copy of the photograph of the original display case will be provided to the buyer. -
