JUST REDUCED! - Incredible Soldier Carved Enfield Bullet from the Seven Days Battlefields
Fantastic Carved Initials "J.D." and "200 Texan Men"
A Unique Relic - You Will Never See Another One Like It!
-

I have seen bullets with carved initials and even with names and place names, but this one is really
terrific! It was in a large group of relics from a Pennsylvania collector (the name will be provided to the buyer) that were
primarily found between 1960 and 1974 and were still in the containers with original typed labels that they were originally
placed in. The bullet is a nice .577 Enfield. Carved on it (I have highlighted the carving with some talcum powder) is "J.D.
200 Texan Men". The J.D. and Texan are obvious - it took me a little time to figure out the rest. There might be a little
more carved on the bullet but I can't make it out. The bullet was identified as having been found on one of the Seven Days
battlefields, so no doubt it was dropped by a soldier of Hood's Texas Brigade. There is no way of knowing whether he was referring
to his regiment in the reference or perhaps to Texas history and the Alamo. Whatever the case, it is a very cool relic that
is absolutely genuine. I will e-mail a letter containing the specific provenance information and the original typed label
from the collection will be included with the bullet. This relic is currently in case #52 and the Antique Center of Gettysburg
and can be seen there.

Georgia Coat Button - Dug at Vicksburg in
the 1970s or early 1980s
-
This Georgia button, which appears to be a local, has a recessed channel on the back and
no back mark (23 mm). The button still retains a good deal of its gilt. The face has been crushed a bit
causing cracking and some loss. This button was found by relic hunter Terry Waxham at Vicksburg in either
the late 1970s or early 1980s. It was acquired from Waxham in the early 1980s by a collector who has kept
possession of it until I acquired it this year. I will include a letter, signed
by me, noting this provenance.

Gavin Collection - Confederate Sword Scabbard Drag
found at A.P. Hill's Division Camp at Corbin, Virginia
-

This relic came from Gavin's display case with relics that were identified as having been found at
Hill's 1862-1863 winter camp at Corbin, Va. This is a Confederate sword scabbard drag. I am not certain
who the manufacturer might have been, but the design clearly is not regulation army and almost certainly is from
a southern manufacturer. It is just under 5 inches long and is 1 1/8 inches wide at the top. There is
a 1 3/4 inch split in the seam at the top and a small seam split on the opposite side. It has been dented in
several places and has been partially crushed at the bottom. A letter, signed by me, with provenance information
and a copy of the photograph of the original display case will be provided to the buyer. This item
may be seen in case 52 at the Antique Center of Gettysburg.

BILL
GAVIN - BUNKER HILL,
WEST VIRGINIA
BRASS
BOOT PISTOL BARREL - BELGIAN MARKS
-
From Case #29 of the Bill Gavin Collection - recovered from Bunker Hill, West Virginia.
The octagonal brass barrel from a boot pistol. The pistol appears to have been about a .45 caliber.
The total length of the relic is 3 1/4 inches - the barrel is about 2 inches in length. On the side is an E over an
LG in a circle - this is a Belgian mark associated with the city of Liege. The Bunker Hill camps were used by both Union
and Confederate troops. Relics like this aren't coming out of the ground very often anymore. A letter, signed by me,
with provenance information and a copy of the photograph of the original display case will be provided to the buyer.
This item may be seen in case 52 at the Antique Center of Gettysburg.
